Infection - Definition

Ask a question

An infection is the invasion and multiplication of microorganisms in an organ of the living body. These microorganisms can be viruses (e.g. flu), bacteria (streptococci or staphylococci in skin infections, Escherichia coli in urinary tract infections), parasites (protozoa giving toxoplasmosis), or fungi or fungal infections (candida infection for example). The body will enable defense mechanisms to eradicate the unwanted microorganism. One of the main symptoms of infection is the presence of fever.
