Orthopedic lumbar corset - Definition


The orthopedic lumbar corset or lumbar orthosis is a medical device that is worn on the trunk and whose purpose is to support the lumbar spine. The lumbar corset is used in case of severe rheumatism, spinal deformities, or fractures of the lumbar vertebrae. The lumbar corset can either have lacing to tighten around the trunk or resin molded on the patient's body and tightened with Velcro. The lumbar corset is usually worn for several weeks or even months.
