Definition

The jejunum is a part of the small intestine. The jejunum is located between the duodenum and ileum. This part of the small intestine measures from 2 to 8 meters in adulthood, with a diameter of 2 to 4 cm. The jejunum is distinguished from other parts of the small intestine due to its highly red color. Like all of the intestines, the jejunum has the capability to absorb ingested food and distribute its energy to the body. Pathologies related to the jejunum are treated by a gastroenterologist.
