The nipple, also called papillary ostium or papilla, is the area of ??darker skin in the middle of the breast. The nipple is made up of the areola and nipple, with a sphincter muscle allowing for contraction. The nipple skin is particularly thin so as to allow breast milk to pass through during breastfeeding. The nipple is a sensitive area, and may become erect when it is cold or under the influence of excitement or sexual stimulation.
