Ask a question

Definition

The ampulla of Vater is an organ in the digestive system (located on the wall of the duodenum). At the point where the gallbladder and pancreas tracts cross, it enables the passage of bile and digestive enzymes during digestion. These elements will then together induce the dissolution of food bolus and fats, an essential step before the absorption of the nutrients provided by food. The ampulla can be the site of a cancer: ampullary tumor.
