The lungs play a part in having asthma. It is Atopy a condition which 50% of the population are born with that causes asthma. Atopy means you can be at risk of having eczema, hay-fever or asthma. Some people have one or all 3.

There are also other causes of asthma such as frequent chest infections as a child or bad cases of bronchitis as an adult.

In asthma - most commonly - allergens are breathed in and cause a reaction making the airways narrow. For some the symptoms only happen occasionally, for some they have symptoms on a daily basis. Treatment of asthma depends on the severity of the symptoms.
